The 1st Conference and Spring School on Properties, Design and Applications of Upconverting Nanomaterials  was held in  Wroclaw, Poland in May 2016 in the Ossolineum Museum and Library in Wrocław

The research topic of the UPCON 2016 Conference and the Spring School covered the scientific areas and working programme identified in the COST Action programme, as the critical issues for the progress and development in up-conversion technology. These included:

  • Materials Research and Photophysical Characterization
  • Surface Functionalisation
  • Instrument Development
  • Assays, Sensors and Imaging
  • Toxicity

There were numerous top-level scientists invited as keynote and invited speakers such as

Mary Berry (USA), Dayong Jin (Australia), Frank C. J. M. van Veggel (Canada) and Chun Hua Yan (China)

As well as

Emory Chan (USA), Guanying Chen (China), Markus Haase (Austria), Daniel Jaque (Spain), Claude Piguet (France), Tero Soukka (Finland), Steve Smith (USA), Hans J. Tanke (The Netherlands) and Stefan Andersson Engels (Sweden)

The conference gained a lot of interest and over 120 participants from all-over the work have participated in the Conference and almost 50 students participated in the Spring School as well as around 20 in the workshop organized in Wroclaw Research Centre EIT+ (Wroclaw).
